Position Summary and Responsibilities Teledyne Energy Systems is looking to hire up to 3-4 Mechanical and/or Materials Engineers (or equivalent) for an upcoming project involving the development of advanced thermoelectric materials and devices for space power applications.
The desired candidates will have demonstrated experience in the high temperature processing and bonding of small metal, thermoelectric and ceramic components.
Some relevant skills may include hot-pressing, dicing, vacuum brazing, ceramic coatings, and tooling design.
These hires will work closely with a highly qualified team of engineers and scientists in an exciting and technically diverse organization.
Work Description:
Develop new procedures for the preparation of components and bonding of those components into assemblies using a hands-on approach.
Design tooling for precision assembly of small (1 cm scale), high temperature devicesUse knowledge of material science concepts and advanced characterization techniques to troubleshoot or refine existing procedures to achieve performance, reliability, and yield goals.
Provide creative design solutions and material expertise as a member of a design team.
Subject matter opportunities include:
Thermoelectric materials and component processing.
High temperature assembly of thermoelectric materials:
diffusion bonding and vacuum brazing.
Small scale tooling design with precision tolerancing.
Advanced coating processes.
Qualifications Required:
BS in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or related field.
Years of experience ranging from 0-10 years (for multiple positions).
The ability to create advanced designs and develop tooling and processes for the fabrication and assembly of small devices.
Demonstrated hands-on knowledge and experience with one or more of the following techniques:
hot-pressing, precision cutting and machining operations on small articles, close tolerance tooling, diffusion bonding, vacuum brazing, or coatings (CVD).
Good understanding of materials science concepts related to the thermal, electrical, or mechanical properties of materials at high temperatures.
The ability to work in a materials laboratory setting (familiarity with glovebox usage, lab safety, lab hygiene, etc.
).
Self-motivated and good problem-solving skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
Desired:
MS or PhD in Engineering or a related field.
Experience with:
synthesis of thermoelectric or similar materials.
Process development and SPC experience.
Use of SEM/EDS or other microscopy methods to study morphology and composition of materials and interfaces.
CAD.
Experience in a highly regulated industry (aerospace, defense, etc ).

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
