Position Summary and Responsibilities Teledyne Energy Systems is looking to hire up to 3-4 Material Scientists or Engineers (or equivalent) for an upcoming project involving the development of advanced thermoelectric materials and devices for space power applications.
The desired candidates will have demonstrated experience in the synthesis, processing, bonding, and/or characterization of thermoelectric or other high-temperature energy materials.
Some relevant skills may include ball milling, hot-pressing, dicing, vacuum brazing, ceramic coatings, SEM+EDS analysis, X-ray diffraction, transport properties measurements, etc.
These hires will work closely with a highly qualified team of engineers and scientists in an exciting and technically diverse organization.
Work Description:
Develop new procedures for material synthesis and processing using a hands-on approach.
Use knowledge of material science concepts and advance characterization techniques to troubleshoot or refine existing procedures to achieve.
performance, reliability, and yield goals.
Contribute to the conceptual and practical development of component, subsystem and system designs.
Provide material expertise and creativity as a member of a design team.
Subject matter opportunities include:
Thermoelectric materials synthesis and processing.
High-temperature diffusion bonding and vacuum brazing.
Characterization of high-temperature thermal and electrical properties of materials.
Qualifications Required:
BS in Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field.
Years of experience ranging from 0-10 years (for multiple positions).
The ability to develop and refine procedures to achieve reliable and consistent methods of materials synthesis and processing.
Demonstrated hands-on knowledge and experience with one or more of the following techniques:
ball milling, melting, sintering, hot-pressing, diffusion bonding, or vacuum brazing.
Hands-on experience with the synthesis, processing, or characterization of ceramics or energy materials (thermoelectrics, SOFC, magnetocaloric, etc.
).
Good understanding of materials science concepts related to the thermal, electrical, or mechanical properties of materials at high temperatures.
The ability to work in a materials laboratory setting (familiarity with glovebox usage, lab safety, lab hygiene, etc.
).
Self-motivated and good problem-solving skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
Desired:
MS or PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or a related field.
Experience with:
Mechanical alloying of solid-solution material systems.
Use of an SEM+EDS to study morphology and composition of materials and interfacesWith tooling design and tolerancing for production of small (cm scale) assemblies.
Process development and control experience.
High-temperature thermal and/or electric transport properties measurements.
